Comparing approaches

Chatbot or AI recruiter: which conversation approach fits your vacancy?

The short answer

Choose the conversation approach rather than the label. A fixed question route may suit straightforward information. For role-specific examples, you can test contextual follow-up questions. Both approaches need clear criteria, verifiable answers and agreements about automated preselection and personal follow-up. The name AI recruiter does not establish that a system offers those capabilities.

Compare how the system actually behaves

The terms chatbot and AI recruiter are not used consistently. Compare a fixed question route with a system that can adapt follow-up questions to an answer. A decision tree can also branch based on responses. Ask for a demonstration of the actual process and its limitations.

When a fixed route may fit

A fixed route helps collect the same practical information, such as availability or a required authorisation. Decide why each question matters and what happens when an answer is unclear. Even a simple route should provide room for clarification and access to a person who can help.

Test follow-up with a work example

Fictional example: a work planner says he managed the schedule. A follow-up can explore which change he made himself and whom he consulted. Test whether the system stays with the answer and identifies missing information. An extensive conversation does not establish honesty, personality or professional competence.

Agree separately how assessment works

Ask whether the system only collects information, assesses criteria or automatically determines who progresses. Record how candidates are informed and how questions or corrections are handled. Personal follow-up at Red Rocket belongs to the employer or recruiter. Do not silently treat unclear answers as an absence of experience.

Choose around the information you need

Compare the information required, the quality of follow-up questions and the ability to check the outcome. Use the same fictional situations in each demonstration. Frequently asked questions

Can you combine fixed questions with contextual follow-up?

That can be a design choice. Check in a demonstration how the supplier implements both routes and how exceptions reach a recruiter.

Is an AI recruiter automatically better?

No. The label says little about the questions, assessment or verifiability. Test the approach with situations that fit your vacancy.

Who makes the decision?

Ask at each stage. Automated preselection and the final hiring decision are separate decisions; record the human review and correction route for each.
